When he got the ball under the basket, he jumped and dunked with all his power. The force was so strong that the entire backboard shattered! Glass went everywhere, and the hoop collapsed.
The game had to be stopped, and the arena crew scrambled to replace the hoop. Shaq stood there smiling, looking like a kid who had just broken a toy. The crowd loved it.
But it didn’t stop there. Later that same season, in a game against the Phoenix Suns, Shaq dunked so hard that the hoop and support bent backward. It wasn’t just the backboard this time; he broke the entire structure! The game was delayed again while they fixed the basket.
After that, the NBA had to change its equipment to make sure it could handle Shaq’s strength. He joked about it later, saying, “I didn’t mean to break them; I was just playing basketball.”
